some new progress

hi folks
here is my first pass after our meeting this morning. I am working this image by simplifying a bit and by trying to pull forward a few things and to merge the idea of a charlotte skylight with an LA map. After that, just plain ole' painterly composition issues are kicking in.....two versions going at the moment

Ramon, these also respond a bit to our recent Chicano abstraction comments.

ooops, I think these images are out of sequence...I started working on Ronna's images by mistake. Sorry Heather!

Jose,

Yes, abstraction can be an ally, and in some cases, a saboteur. GRONK for instance, is acused of alienating a segment of society (which I deny but I am a defender of the faith). But it's something to think about when considering who your audience is.

Now, you can say that I've contradicted myself 5 times in the last paragraph, sure, as I am dealing with these demons on a daily basis. Quite frankly, I use abstraction as hyper-realism, but that's a topic over some frosty ones.

Plus, I've only had one cup of coffee this morning (and quite a few cold ones last night), so forgive me.

Your brother in arms,

Ramon

Oh, on a compositional basis, the 'flower' my need to shift over some (mirrored also). I think the conflict with the F-16 and the flower (negative space) is to close and some space is needed for contemplation. But like I said, only one cup so far.
